LOST CREEK, |

|
Lost Creek is a small town located in the southernmost portion of
Harrison County WV (Harrison County, West
Virginia, United States) at exit 110 of
Interstate-79. The population of
the town proper, was 467 at the 2000
census..but that figure does not account for the thousands of people who live
in the surrounding rural farming areas. Lost
Creek was once a stop along the
B&O Railroad line between Clarksburg and Weston and served as the transporation hub for farm and household goods, coal, cattle and
passengers in that part of the county.
It's historic, Century old train depot still stands and is undergoing
renovation so as to soon house a
museum and gift shop along what has become a part of the county's "rails to trails" program. A
series of two lane highways from several surrounding areas all interconnect
at Lost Creek and although the railroad has been replaced by the state's
North-South Interstate Highway (I-79)…the
town is still the central point through which
travelers and freight passes on the
way to and from the communites of
Mt Clare, Romines Mill, Rockford, Johnstown, McWhorter, Ryder, West Milford, Buffalo Lake, Issacs Creek
and Good Hope. Lost
Creek has a Mayor-Council government that meets monthly at the town's
"City Building" which doubles as the Senior Center and also houses
the Volunteer Fire Department. In
addition to it's city building the town hosts a bank, library, pharmacy, post
office, gas-convenience store, a farm supply/hardware store,
a bed and breakfast, community-recreational building, two small
housing developments, a day care
center, a doctors office - clinic, three churches, an Elementary School, a
nearby Middle School and High School, State Park - Historic area,….and an FM
Radio station. Once a
town that thrived on the bounty of nearby farms and coal mines, Lost Creek is
now at the center of what has become a series of smaller farms, and "bedroom"
communities, serving as home to
thousands of people who work for government agencies and shopping malls in
the town of Clarlksburg some 8-miles north on Interstate - 79. LINKS HARRISON COUNTY CHARLOTTE GERLACH WILDLIFE ARTIST |
